11.jpgYoga is an ancient Indian practice dating back to 2500 BCE or earlier. It is a scientific system designed to generate health, happiness and a greater sense of Self.

In yoga, the body and mind are linked to create a state of internal peacefulness and integration, bringing the individual from a state of separation to a self-unity that is flexible, accepting and whole.

Yoga is an approach to life that values balance and harmony. It generates physical health through postures and breath. It effects emotional and mental well-being through concentration, movement and relaxation, and it expands spiritual awareness through study of classical teachings, self-inquiry and meditation.

Yoga Postures

The most popular form of yoga today is an integration of several yoga practices, primarily body movement, traditionally known as postures or asanas. They serve to strengthen and invigorate the body, helping all physical systems to work properly. These include the skeletal and muscular structures as well as the circulation, respiratory, glandular and nervous systems. The postures are performed with awareness, with a focus on the breath and the internal experience.

Yoga is a remarkably effective practice on its own or can be part of other physical training such as aerobics, weight training, running, swimming or other sports.
